THERE was a party in the streets of Bishop’s Waltham when a campaign was launched to raise £10,000.
St George’s Square was the setting, as the town’s two Southern Co-operative’s stores hosted the event.
The aim was to encourage residents to dig deep in aid of Bishop’s Waltham in Bloom and Swanmore Pre-School, which will split the cash equally.
Attractions at the free street party, which ran from 11am until 2pm, included a barbecue with locally-sourced meats, cake stalls, craft activities, a colouring competition, a jewellery stall, bouncy castle, mobile disco and a mystery box raffle, with prizes worth up to £50.
Under the Southern Co-operative’s community support card scheme, customers have their card swiped when they shop and the more the card is swiped, the quicker the funds are donated.
Bishop’s Waltham in Bloom intends to use its share to plant flowers around the town, while Swanmore Pre-School will turn an outdoor space into a quiet area for children to enjoy books and explore nature.
