FIVE up-and-coming artists and companies have been selected as associate artists at The Point.
Emma Nias of the Well Red Comedy Company is a solo street artist specialising in character comedy and walkabout performance.
Currently a street arts student at the University of Winchester, her characters include Madame Heather the misfortune teller and Sybil the world’s last singing siren.
Up-and-coming dancer Hayley Barker continues to develop her own practice, exploring theatre, character and improvisation within performance.
A circus, dance and theatre fusion, Joli Vyann are Olivia Quayle and Jan Patzke. They create diverse work from theatrical to abstract with Olivia specialising in dance, aerial and acrobatics and Jan specialising in basing, banquine and martial arts.
Originally based in Perth, Australia, but now with their roots firmly in Hampshire, Strange Arrangements, under the guidance of artistic directors Nigel Luck, Janet Lee, Ivan Hall and Hannah Timms, make performances that start from their curiosity about the world we live in.
Established in 2005, Search Party is the collaboration of artists Pete Phillips and Jodie Hawkes. Search Party are committed to making immediate, hopeful performances that renegotiate the relationship between artist and audience, creating temporary communities and inviting spectators to become co-collaborators in the live event.
The new associate artists will be based at The Point from September.
The Point’s associate artist scheme helps establish new creative enterprises through which young artists can develop a sustainable career.
