THERE were servant girls, Dickensian chimney sweeps, Tudor duchesses and lots of kids in their grandad’s flat caps.
Children at a Meon Valley school went back in time for a special week of history.
Pupils and staff at Wickham Church of England Primary School enjoyed a week of real-life history inspired by the popular Horrible Histories TV series with its boast that “It’s history with the nasty bits left in!”
History leader at the school Sean Beech organised first-hand learning activities for the whole school including workshops and performances by a number of local historical groups.
Each class investigated a chosen period of history to prepare living Horrible Histories-style experiences for the rest of the school to enjoy on Friday.
The children immersed themselves in history for the whole week with a fantastic variety of historical presentations, workshops and displays each day.
Head teacher Maria Ackland said: “Our Horrible Histories Week has been memorable, our children have been thoroughly engaged and excited by their historical learning and we have had tremendous fun.”
