A HAMPSHIRE MP was today set to launch a major new initiative aimed at boosting the number of apprentices.
Mike Thornton was due to be at Prysmian Cables in Eastleigh as part of moves to double the number of businesses in the UK taking on apprentice placements.
The Eastleigh MP will be joined by the Government’s Ambassador of Apprenticeships to Business Gordon Birtwistle.
They will meet with local apprentices, take a tour of the site, and find out more about the opportunities and challenges faced by firms.
The day will also include a visit to Arlington Rail, and Eastleigh’s famous Railway Works, to meet with apprentices.
Over the next few months Mr Thornton is planning to visit schools and training providers about apprenticeship schemes.
