THE Theatre Royal in Winchester has an incredible season of entertainment this autumn.
Whether you’re looking for a family trip, a side-splitting comedy show or just a good decent drama, there is something for everyone.
Making a grand return this year is the Winchester Comedy Gala from October 3 to 6.
Including such names as Isy Suttie, Katherine Ryan, Paul McCaffrey and Jarred Christmas there is something to tickle every comedy taste.
Master puppeteer Nina Conti will also be taking to the stage, as will rapper with a twist Doc Brown.
Simon Evans and his biting observational wit will also be gracing Winchester.
Kids can also get in on the fun with the Comedy Club 4 Kids on October 6. They’ll be able to experience all the fun and laughs without the rude bits.
An A-list team of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Doctor Who composer Murray Gold, and Michele Clapton, costume designer for Game of Thrones have collaborated on a spellbinding retelling of Rapunzel from November 2 to 3. The ballet is a must-see production for children aged seven plus and their families.
Younger children will also be able to enjoy the theatre experience with Room on the Broom from November 18 to 19. Written by Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo, it tells the story of a witch and her cat on a broom.
Stickman, Live On Stage will be returning from the October 18 to November 20 to delight young theatre goers.
The theatre is also packing plenty of drama in the upcoming season. Northern Broadsides return with The Grand Gesture from September 24 to 28, with a brilliantly dark comedy about a man on the edge contemplating ending it all with hilarious results. The all-male version of A Clockwork Orange will also be coming to Winchester from October 7 to 12 following a successful West End run.
Also making a welcome return is OperaUpclose.
Following the success of La Boheme, they will now be presenting their version of Tosca, an accessible pared-down style performed in English to delight the senses.
Coming-of-age drama Beats will be at the theatre on November 21, a story of rebellion, apathy and power with a 90s rave backdrop.
Classical boyband Blake and their rich harmonies will be making a welcome return to Winchester on October 21, as will folk singer Ralph McTell on November 4.
Contempory dance troupe Motionhouse will also return with their show Broken on November 25 and 26.
The season is rounded off by the traditional and ever-popular family pantomime. All the ‘He’s Behind You’ and ‘Oh No He Isn’t’ will come in the form of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves from December 11 to January 5.
