A FRESH bid to allow a takeaway to continue to sell alcohol has failed.
Said Arif, of Foster Road, Southampton, had applied to take over the premises’ licence at the Monett takeaway in Eastleigh’s High Street after the business owner Aziz Otmanzai’s bid was unsuccessful in May.
It was to allow the business to continue to sell food and alcohol late at night, but was refused by Eastleigh Borough Council’s licensing panel.
An Eastleigh Borough Council spokesman said the panel’s reasons for refusal were that the applicant had been unable to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the requirements of the licence and knowledge of the conditions when questioned by police.
The panel was also not convinced that the applicant understood what was required from him as the premises licence holder for the alcohol side of the business.
In representations to the council prior to the meeting, police had said that the applicant was a friend of the owner.
The premises can trade until 11pm.
