A DOG walker was left horrified when his family pet was savagely mauled by two other dogs.
Now father-of-two Dane Pearson is warning that others could face the same terrifying ordeal unless police trace the owners of the animals which left his dog with a broken leg and agonising wounds.
He was walking his Border terrier Freddie in Hut Wood, off Bournemouth Road, Chandler’s Ford, when two dogs raced towards them and began crowding around his terrified pooch.
The 52-year-old, who lives in Pennard Way, said: “They were sniffing him and suddenly it all kicked off and they started attacking and biting his shoulders and face.
“They turned him over on to his back and were trying to drag him away.
“He was on the lead so he was being pulled in both directions and I thought they could kill him.”
Their owners – a man and woman in their 20s – were 100 metres away when their dogs approached.
The man initially tried to call them back over and when they refused he ran the remaining distance to separate them and pin one of the animals to the ground.
Meanwhile the woman led two other dogs in their possession down a separate path.
Mr Pearson claimed the man failed to apologise and just said “she’s never done that before” before walking off.
Freddie is recovering at home after vets bandaged his leg, applied stitches to a two inch gash in his groin and treated severe bite marks puncturing his neck and belly.
But Mr Pearson, a business development manager, said: “My concern is that other people use this area to walk their dogs and these people are still at large.
“He is one of the loveliest dogs – he hardly ever barks and he would lick you to death but I will never go there again because it will make him nervous. “You can’t be 100 per cent sure that your dog is not going to run off in public.
“People should be in control of their dogs – I don’t want anyone else to go through what we went through.”
The dogs are thought to be a breed similar to Staffies or Staffie crosses.
Their owners are white – the man is 5ft 7in with short dark hair, while the woman is 5ft 3in with dark hair tied in a bun.
A police spokeswoman said officers had notified Eastleigh Borough Council’s dog warden about the attack.
