CHILDREN from Calmore Infant School and Calmore Junior School along with their family and people from the local community joined together to set a new world record for the longest human chain to pass through a hula hoop.
Tensions were high as each of the 364 had to step through the hoop while holding hands throughout but celebrations began when stewards confirmed that the record was broken.
The previous Guinness World Record was set by 249 people from John Carroll University in Ohio, USA in April.
The challenge was set by year six teacher Nick Darch after a suggestion from a parent.
Nick said: “I feel relieved and proud that we’ve done it. The school is buzzing now.
“We just wanted to do something challenging, something a bit different.
“We said to the kids that, even if the record was to be broken, they can say that at one point they were world record holders.”
