TWO people have been taken to hospital after a blaze at a Southampton home.
Fire crews were called to Hinkler Road, Thornhill, just after midday and found the first floor of the terraced house and the roof engulfed in flames.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went inside to tackle the blaze while the aerial ladder platform from St Mary's allowed crews to tackle it from above.
Their swift work stopped the fire spreading to neighbouring properties.
Crew from Hightown, Botley and Winchester then spent the next few hours dampening down to ensure it was fully extinguished.
Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.
A joint investigation with police is now under way to establish the cause of the fire.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service station manager Nigel Cooper said: “Crews were faced with a severe fire on the first floor spreading to the roof of an end of terrace building.
“The crews prompt entry and effective firefighting contained this fire to the first floor and roof of the property enabling a rapid knockdown of the fire.”
