FIREFIGHTERS returned to landfill site on the Hampshire border in the early hours after a blaze they had previously put out flared up again.
Crews from Ringwood fire station tackled the fire at the Blue Haze Landfill site in Verwood Road near Ringwood when two tonnes of rubbish reignited shortly after 4am.
The blaze initially took hold at 7.44pm last night when ten tonnes of household waste caught fire and around 40 firefighters from Ringwood, Verwood, Eastleigh, Fordingbridge and Lyndhurst used hose reels and water jets to tackle the flames before leaving at around 10pm.
Crews eventually put out the second blaze by 6am and used excavators to turn the material to ensure no heat remained.
The cause of the fire is unknown and crews will reinspect the site to ensure it is safe this morning.
