IT IS the latest hen party craze to sweep the States – and now it has arrived in Hampshire.
For many women waving goodbye to single life, the thought of L-plates, tiaras, novelty hairbands and male strippers is their idea of a hen night from hell.
But now one company is offering brides-to-be a more “sophisticated and arty” alternative to a red-face inducing raucous Chippendale-style hen do.
Paul Stillwell, a model and artist, offers brides-to-be life drawing classes where they can spend two hours drawing his naked body.
And according to Paul, Hampshire has a huge market for the unusual hen parties. He has already posed at more than 100 parties with dozens more bookings lined up.
He said: “Its popularity is growing and growing.
It’s unusual, it’s different. People are getting a bit bored of strippers.
“There are people who get embarrassed at the thought of dangly bits directly in front of them.
With the drawing classes, the women are doing something arty with a cheeky nature while having a lot of fun as well as getting the nudity that is expected at hen parties. It’s got that reserved Englishness about it.”
In Paul’s two-hour sessions women are given a drawing board, paper, charcoals and pencils while they enjoy wine or champagne.
Paul strikes various naked poses either standing up with his hands above his head or lying down for five minutes at a time while the women get to work.
The budding artists are even taught various techniques including drawing naked Paul blindly, with their non dominant hand, or by not taking the pencil off the paper.
They show each other the pictures afterwards and Paul picks his favourite and the winners take photographs with their work of art and Paul for posterity.
Paul, 43, who models nude for art classes across the county and provides a naked butler service, said everyone has a good time and feels comfortable.
He said: “They are great fun and an excuse for a bunch of ladies to have a glimpse of a naked man for a couple of hours behind the security of their drawing boards. We get all generations too. If it’s a younger bride we’ll often get her mother-in-law to be and even grandmas.”
And for Paul, who began hosting the two-hour classes which cost £10 per person when he left his job as a high-flying graphic designer following a breakdown, he said he simply loves his job.
“There’s a lot of banter and a great party atmosphere. I get a lot of comments like ‘you’ve got a nice tan’ and ‘I like your bum’, it’s all in good spirits. I keep it nice and light hearted and cheeky and enter into the spirit of it and often make fun of myself.
“Alot of hens say they haven’tlaughed so much in a long time and that’s just fabulous.”

How hen dos have reached a whole new level...
HEN parties in Hampshire are becoming more and more extravagant.
While brides-to-be were previously content with getting the girls together for a tacky night out on the town wearing the token L-plates, pink feather boas and tiaras, while drinking luminous cocktails and maybe contending with the odd ropey stripper, hen dos have reached a whole new level.
With Hollywood films such as Bridesmaids popularising ideas such as bank-busting escapades abroad, more and more women are breaking their budgets in a bid to take their final party as a singleton to the extreme- with the parties alone often costing more than the wedding.
According to a survey carried out by Stag Company and Hen Heaven the average cost of a hen party is now £157.
Nowadays the hen-do date is booked months in advance, soon after your friend shows off her sparkling engagement ring.
But worse, from then on in you are confronted with a constant barrage of emails from the maid of honour charged with planning the day, evening, weekend, or week-long-event.
While women are often praised for their Keep Calm and Carry On attitude to organising and multi-tasking, the woman in charge normally morphs into a Henzilla directing your every move with military precision.
Now trips abroad on the itinerary are as far afield as Las Vegas or as expensive as exclusive stays in Cotswold cottages with pricey spa treatments.
But from afternoon teas to cocktail making classes, make-up masterclasses, evening cookery classes and jewellery beading workshops, it seems nothing is out of bounds for today’s bride.
