OIL tanks containing thousands of litres of fuel exploded as fire ripped through two Hampshire homes last night.
More than 35 fire fighters were called after a blaze broke out in adjacent garages before spreading to two detached homes.
Two oil tanks, one containing 2,000 litres and the other 1,500 litres, exploded while crews were working at the scene, on Wallop Road in Grateley.
The first property suffered fire damage to the exterior and interior before the blaze spread to a second property completely destroying its first floor and severely damaging the ground-floor.
It was so fierce that a nearby field caught fire and had to be put out with beaters.
Six teams from Hampshire and two teams from Wiltshire were called to the scene, using jets, hose reels and breathing apparatus during the two-hour operation.
A spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said there were no casualties.
