Pupils and teachers of Romsey Primary School gathered together to sow the seeds of success for the new beginning of their school.

More than 200 pupils attended a celebratory assembly to mark the formal beginning of the primary school, in Plaza Parade, Romsey.

Romsey Primary is now the new school for children in the area following the closure of the infant and junior school in August.

During the assembly each child was given an acorn to care for and nurture at home, ready to be planted on the site of the new school building once it has been built. Designs for the new building have been drawn and the school is awaiting permission to start work.

Head teacher Nick Hutson said: "Today at the assembly we began sowing the seeds for our new school. The acorn theme fits with the environmentally-friendly ethos of this school and our motto, where the seeds of learning grow.

"We are still operating on two sites, the assembly celebrated the fact that we have come together as one school because a school is the children, not the building."
