A WINCHESTER man has been spared jail after he admitted attacking a man who owed him money. David Layton, 62, of Grange Road, St Cross, admitted assaulting Darren Osborne, Winchester Crown Court heard. Prosecutors dropped two other charges, of conspiracy to kidnap and injuriously imprisoning Mr Osborne and detaining him against his will on January 19. Sentencing, Judge Guy Boney QC gave Layton a 12-month conditional discharge. The judge said he took Layton’s previous good character into account and the time he had spent in custody on remand.
