SAFER Places in Alresford will be officially launched on Friday, July 19, at the town community centre.

The Safer Places scheme aims to help vulnerable people, providing them, particularly those with a learning disability, with a safe place to go to where help can be summoned if they are feeling scared or upset.

Several local shops in Alresford have signed up to become Safe Places, displaying distinctive yellow stickers in their windows.

Local MP Steve Brine said: “My own Stockbridge Road office is a registered Safe Place, and I was honoured to be asked to be a part of the launch of the Winchester scheme back in June 2012. I am delighted that Safe Places is now moving to Alresford and wish the team all the best for the launch.”

Between 10.30 and noon there will be a stall at the community centre, in West Street, where the public can collect a card and find out more about the scheme.
