TO BRING excitement to the new year, Salisbury Playhouse will play host to West End hit - Shadowlands.

Nominated for three awards for its West End run Shadowlands, by Oscar nominated William Nicholson, is a moving true love story of C S Lewis' relationship with Joy Davidmann.

The play is about renowned author C S Lewis who agrees to marry the divorced American poet Joy Davidmann, to allow her and her two sons to stay in England.

But what began as an act of charity by the bachelor becomes a deep, abiding love.

When his wife becomes gravely ill, Jack begins a journey into the Shadowlands.

A West End hit at its premiere at Shaftesbury Avenue in 1989; it was later adapted as a BAFTA winning film. In 1993 it received the Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film.

Nicholson's other plays include The Retreat from Moscow, Katherine Howard and Map of the Heart.

Shadowlands will be coming to the Salisbury Playhouse from January 18 until February 10.

It is a beautiful and touching play that demonstrates the power of love, and will leave you feeling deeply moved.
