A Hampshire man has received a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of two charges of attacking his wife.
Michael Andrews, 54, from Marryat Road, New Milton, had denied assaulting Patricia Andrews, by beating, on January 8 and February 11 this year.
Bournemouth magistrates heard how violence had first flared after Mrs Andrews arrived late to pick up her husband from work.
He shook her in the car park and she fell, hurting her hip.
On February 11 Andrews caused “horrendous injuries” after dragging his wife of 33 years around their lounge.
She suffered extensive bruising.
In Andrews’ defence the court was told that his behaviour had been out of character and he was sorry for the distress he had caused. The couple are now estranged.
Imposing an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, chairman of the bench Professor Malcolm Weale told Andrews: “You subjected Mrs Andrews to degrading treatment. By pleading not guilty you added to her pain, suffering and distress.”
Andrews was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay his victim £1,000 compensation.
