Bosses behind plans for a major housing scheme in the centre of Lymington have launched a second attempt to gain permission.
Pennyfarthing Homes aims to build up to 25 properties on a site currently occupied by the Travis Perkins building supply firm, which wants to move to another part of the town.
Pennyfarthing’s first attempt to redevelop the site was rejected following a public inquiry.
A Government-appointed planning inspector who chaired the hearing said the proposed development would have harmed the character and appearance of the area.
The inquiry was triggered by New Forest District Council’s decision to reject the original application. Planning officers said the scheme was “significantly at odds” with the site’s spacious and leafy surroundings. They also warned that the development would threaten protected trees.
Now Pennyfarthing has gone back to the drawing board and devised a new scheme that aims to overcome the objections.
About half the homes would be affordable properties if the application is given the go-ahead.
