A HAMPSHIRE pensioner had a miraculous escape after her car careered down a 20ft embankment and crashed into a tree.
The 76-year-old driver was travelling north along the A326 near Totton yesterday when she was run off the road.
But despite her age and the severity of the crash, she walked away unhurt.
The pensioner, from Ashurst, was driving towards Totton in her black Hyundai L10 when the incident occurred at the Cocklydown roundabout just before 8.30am.
A police spokesman said: “The woman told police she was forced to take avoiding action after a large beige vehicle cut across her.
“She swerved and left the road, travelling 20ft down an embankment and hitting a tree. She was shaken but uninjured.”
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact PC Jason Andrews at Totton police station on 101.
