IT’S a colourful feast of music, arts and food from around the globe.

Hoglands Park will be transformed tomorrow for Southampton’s largest free festival – the Mela.

Meaning gathering, the Mela is now in its 11th year and offers a great family day out.

The Main Stage will keep you entertained all day with an eclectic mix of international musicians and dancers. Highlights include the outstanding Sonia Sabri and her new contemporary South Asian performance – Jungi, pictured, and sensational Bhangra artists Nirmal Sidhu and Nav Sidhu.

This year the festival salutes 100 years of Bollywood with classic film tunes from Keep Alive and throughout the day you can contribute to a Bollywood themed community mural with unit11 studio plus the usual Bollywood dance performances and workshops.

The World Stage will showcase music from around the world including Spanish Flamenco, African Marimbas and closes with a slice of Americana from the Black Kat Boppers.

If you are feeling more hands on there is plenty to try. In the Music Workshop Tent you can unleash your inner musician. In the Activity Zone there are various art, dance and crafts workshops to keep all ages busy and new to this year is the Sports Zone, where you can try a variety of activities offered locally.

Award-winning dancer and choreographer, Sonia Sabri told Your Entertainment: “We have been performing at the Mela for years and have always enjoyed the appreciation from the diverse crowds who attend.

“I have to say it is one of the few Melas in the country I have been to that present a dynamic programme of both entertainment acts and artistic work to give a wide taste of the arts and culture to their growing audiences.”

  • The Mela runs from 12 noon to 9pm.
  •  The full Mela line-up for all stages can be found in today's Daily Echo.
