POLICE are investigating reports of 20 youths attacking a teenager in a play park – but they do not know who the victim is.
Hampshire police confirmed they had received a report from a concerned woman who said she was walking past the Hiltingbury Rec in Chandler’s Ford on Tuesday when she claims to have seen a gang of around 20 boys trying to beat up another boy.
She told police the large group were aged 16 to 17 and some were wearing orange T-shirts while others had Thornden School polo shirts on.
However, the school said it was the first they had heard about such an incident and had since contacted the police.
Stephanie Braithwaite, deputy head teacher at Thornden School, said police had told them they were investigating and the school was awaiting the outcome, but added it took any allegations of this nature extremely seriously.
The alleged victim is described as aged about 16, white, with brown hair and wearing a green T-shirt and was said to be heading towards the Fryern Arcade.
Despite police attending the Chandler’s Ford area including the Rec, Fryern Arcade, Bournemouth Road, Leigh Road and Winchester Road they could not locate anyone from the group or the alleged victim.
Anyone with information is asked to call Eastleigh police on 101.
