THOUSANDS of people are expected to line the streets of a Hampshire town tomorrow to watch its pedal car grand prix.

Dozens of competitors are expected to face scorching heat as they race around New Milton’s Monaco F1- style circuit, which is about one kilometre long.

Race director Conrad Curtis said he was expecting between 5,000 and 10,000 spectators to view the action.

“Competitors come here to enjoy themselves from all over Britain – it’s a great day and we’re all looking forward to it,” he said.

Held every two years the event is organised by New Milton Jubilee Fund Committee and raises thousands of pounds for charity. This year’s grand prix is being sponsored by Pennyfarthing Homes, which will donate the proceeds to youth charities based in the town.

Marshals and the race team will start constructing the track from 8am, with racing starting at 2pm.

The circuit features a long straight down Station Road to the taxi rank chicane, after which the drivers head back towards the traffic lights before turning into Ashley Road.

They then make a 180-degree turn near the recreation ground before returning to the lights and going north up Station Road to the finish line.

After racing finishes at 4pm trophies will be presented to the overall winners, the best ladies team and the best youth outfit.
