A SOUTHAMPTON man has launched his bid to represent millions of people across the south in Europe’s biggest parliament.
Del Singh, pictured, has been selected as one of ten Labour candidates to represent the South East in the European Parliament.
If he is successful in elections next May, the 38-year-old said he would help to bring more jobs to Hampshire and support trade between the region and the European Union.
Mr Singh was born in Southampton and studied at the city college before completing a degree in business and a Masters in European Studies at the London School of Economics.
Over the last decade, he has worked in international development, managing projects funded by the UN, EU, and Department for International Development in the Middle East.
He also has past experience of the EU from his role on the budget committee of the European Parliament.
As a volunteer, Mr Singh mentors the long-term unemployed in Hampshire and helps out at a homeless charity in London. He also serves on the Board of Care International and the Labour Friends of Palestine.
In 2011 he ran a marathon in Gaza to raise money for the UN children’s programme.
The European Parliament elections will take place on May 22 next year.
