HAMPSHIRE parents are being warned of the dangers of measles this summer and are urged to get their children vaccinated before jetting off on holiday.
Measles is a highly infectious disease and a high number of cases have already been confirmed across England this year, although cases in Hampshire have remained low.
To keep it this way, health bosses are appealing to parents to get their children vaccinated before holidays, as popular destinations, such as France and Spain, are among the top seven countries reporting high numbers of cases.
Dr Michael Baker, NHS England’s public health consultant in screening and immunisation for Hampshire, said: “It is really important that parents make sure their children have had the fullMMRvaccination as measles is a highly infectious illness and spreads really easily.
“It is never too late to get vaccinated against measles.
Parents of unvaccinated children, teenagers or young people should seek at least one dose of MMR vaccination which will give them 95 per cent protection against measles. A second dose is then needed to provide almost complete protection.”
