THE family of a motorcyclist who died in a crash with a car have paid tribute to man who was "never happier than when riding his bike".

Mark Ashdown, 24, of Hardings Lane, Fair Oak, died at the scene after the collision at a crossroads in Botley Road in Fair Oak, Hampshire, on Friday.

He was set to start a new job as a courier on Monday, his family said Mr Ashdown's father, Paul, said: “He was looking forward to earning a living doing what he loved, as he was due to start a new job as a courier on Monday.

“Mark will be sorely missed and always in our hearts.” He is one of six bikers to die in the county in the last week.

Police have stepped up patrols over the weekend in an attempt to improve safety during the summer weather.

They are urging all motorcyclists and car drivers to be extra vigilant on the roads this weekend following a series of fatal collisions involving a motorbike since the current hot spell began.

With hot weather forecast throughout the coming days, bikers are asked not to be tempted to dress light but wear appropriate protective clothing at all time - leathers where possible, high visibility tabards, appropriate boots and footwear.

They are also urged to take extra care on the roads which are expected to experience heavy traffic volumes as people begin heading for their summer holidays.

Car drivers are also being urged to “Think Bike”, and be extra conscious of motorbikes and cyclists on the road during this busy period when bright light can make visibility difficult.
