ALRESFORD town councillor Margot Power accused the Tory city council of being “vainglorious” in its council house building programme.

The city council wants to build 300 houses over the next ten years and has proposed schemes in Stanmore, Highcliffe and Abbotts Barton. All have been controversial, said Cllr Power at the town council meeting.

She said less ambitious schemes in Alresford, in roads such as Jesty and Ashburton would not be unpopular and cited the scheme for Itchen Abbas as being one with widespread support.

“It was a bit vainglorious, a bit sad, going into Abbotts Barton,” she said.
