MILITARY hopefuls have received a taste of life in the Royal Navy.
Fifteen Military Mentor students spent time at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, finding out about a career as a weapons engineer.
A visit to the close range weapons section gave the chance to try out a simulator for using the mini-guns, including a 30mm model.
All are currently enrolled within the Forces Ready 16- 19-year-olds programme at the Military Mentors Academy.
Tony West, ex-commander and former offficer in charge of RN police at HMS Collingwood, set up the organisation six months ago because he wanted to use his involvement in training after a 35-year career in the Navy.
Military Mentors give training to help young people achieve their goals in life, whether they want to be in the Forces, public services or other employment.
It liaises closely with Armed Forces careers offices to know exactly what is required to get aspiring soldiers, sailors and airmen through the application process.
