THE 9th annual Watercress Festival proved to be the most successful yet, raising a hefty £3,700 for local charity the Joe Glover Trust – over £1,000 more than last year.
A record-breaking number of people, estimated at 12,000, flocked to the event in May to enjoy cooking demonstrations, performers, competitions, food stalls and markets.
In exchange for a free bag of watercress, festival-goers were encouraged to donate to the Joe Glover Trust.
The Watercress Alliance, formed of watercress growers in Hampshire and Dorset, supplied 5,000 bags of the superfood for the cause.
Formed in 2007 in memory of eight-year old Joe Glover, the charity works to support families and children’s cancer care units across the South.
Executive officer of the trust Victoria Stevens said she was “touched and amazed” by the generosity of the festival-goers.
