DETECTIVES investigating the death of three men have found the remains of a yacht that may be that of the one that went missing in the Solent.

The Ouzo went missing on August 20 after leaving Bembridge on the Isle of Wight while heading towards Dartmouth.

But following the weekend's severe weather a wreckage was found on Sandy Point on Hayling Island.

Police said tests are now going to be carried out on the wreckage to establish if it is the Ouzo.

The bodies of Londoners James Meaby, 36, Jason Downer, 35, and Rupert Saunders, 36, were found on August 23 and 24.

It's believed the 27ft yacht suffered a catastrophic collision with a larger vessel in the busy shipping waters off the Isle of Wight.

The news comes after detectives arrested a senior crewmember of a P&O passenger ferry in connection with the death of the three sailors in October.

The Pride of Bilbao was identified as having been in the area where the three men's bodies were found.

Officers examined the ship's hull in August and studied its black box data as part of their inquiries into the Ouzo's disappearance.

The 61-year-old man, who worked as the second officer on the Pride of Bilbao, was arrested on suspicion of causing manslaughter through gross negligence.

One of his roles as second officer included the safe navigation of the 37,000 tonne vessel, which can hold up to 600 vehicles and 2,500 passengers.

He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
