TWO PEOPLE were killed in a three-vehicle smash on a Hampshire road.

Lee Makepeace, 21, and Emma-Louise Jobson, 18, both died when their Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a Subaru Impreza, driven by a 42-year-old man, and a Mercedes saloon, driven by a 44-year-old man, on the A339 south of Kingslcere yesterday morning.

The accident on the three-lane section of the A339 closed the road for nine hours as police investigation and forensic teams assessed the scene.

The Vauxhall Corsa and the Mercedes were both travelling from Newbury when they collided with the Subaru which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Mr Makepeace, from Newbury, died instantly in the crash and Miss Jobson, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall Corsa and also from Newbury, died shortly after arriving at the North Hampshire Hospital.

Hampshire Police's road traffic policing unit has launched an investigation under the name of Operation Anzac and is appealing to anyone who was driving along the A339 at around 10am yesterday morning.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed to Eastleigh Police station in March 2007.
