MORE THAN 50 firefighters tackled a blaze at a church on the Isle of Wight which destroyed most of the building.
The fire at St Wilfred's Church in Trinity Road, Ventnor, started at around 1.19pm yesterday and ripped through the single-storey building damaging 60 per cent of it.
Six pumps and four special units were called to attend the fire as well as police and ambulance but nobody was believed to have been injured.
The cause of the fire is still not known and the fire investigation team will re-assess the damage this morning.
