A FIRE gutted the kitchen of a Hampshire fire after dinner ended in disaster for one family last night.
Firefighters from Redbridge and St Mary’s were called to the blaze in Percy Road, Shirley, after the cooking caught fire just before 8pm.
The house was fitted with fire alarms so the family, two adults and two children, were able to flee to property uninjured before the fire service arrived.
It is believed that some food cooking under the grill was forgotten about and caught alight.
Crews using breathing apparatus fought the flames from inside the property, taking just over an hour to get it completely extinguished.
