MULTI-MILLION pound improvements to the area around Southampton’s central railway station have been approved.
Council chiefs have approved £2.28m of improvement works which will include a new footpath and road surfaces introduced to the north of the station as well as a taxi rank, pedestrian crossing and public realm improvements.
As previously reported, funding for the works, which will start in October and could be completed by March, has come from Government grants and contributions from developers who have built in Southampton.
The works are just the first phase of a wider, £10m project which will see an upgrade to the station’s forecourt.
