A MAN brandishing two large knives was seen running along a city road this morning, according to police.
The incident happened in Graham Road in the Nicholstown area of Southampton.
Residents began ringing police at 10.13am to report the incident and about 30 officers - including armed police, police dogs and the Force Support Unit – attended, setting up an inner and outer cordon to protect the public.
Witnesses told police the man went into a Graham Road flat. Officers went to the property, where they arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of affray. He remains in custody at Southampton Central police station.
Incident Commander was Chief Inspector Darren Miller. He said: “I am pleased that we were able to swiftly respond to this incident and resolve it safely and quickly. I would like to thank the local community for their support which enabled us to do this."
Local officers and Police Community Support Officers remained in the area to reassure local residents that a man was arrested, and the threat to residents had ended.
