THE PRESS watchdog has ruled publishing photographs of the ex-wife of disgraced former Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne Vicky Pryce in open prison did not breach privacy rules.

This comes a day after a similar complaint by Huhne was dismissed.

Pryce’s daughter had complained to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) after The Daily Telegraph published a photograph of Pryce at East Sutton Park open prison in Kent.

But the claim that it amounted to harassment and a breach of her privacy was rejected.

This follows the ruling that there was no invasion of privacy when Huhne was pictured with his partner Carina Trimingham as he served his sentence at HMP Leyhill in Gloucestershire after his conviction for perverting the course of justice.

The PCC concluded it “could not agree that the locations in which the complainants had been photographed were private places” for the purposes of the code, and it noted that “neither the photographs nor the articles revealed any additional information about the complainants or their relationship which was intrinsically private”.

Mr Huhne was released in May after serving two months of an eight-month sentence after his ex-wife Vicky Pryce – who was also jailed – took speeding points for him.

The Liberal Democrat former energy secretary resigned as an MP as a result of the criminal case.
