A TEACHER'S car and mobile phone were stolen during a parents' evening at a Hampshire school.

A bag containing the teacher's car keys and other items was taken from an office at Hardley School and Sixth Form, near Fawley.

Police have released CCTV footage of two people who were caught on camera as they walked down a corridor.

A police spokesman said: "Two men in their late teens or early 20s entered the school and left the premises carrying a bag belonging to a member of staff.

"The bag contained keys, a Nokia mobile phone, cash cards and a wallet with a small amount of cash.

"It appears to have been an opportunist theft from an office that was used frequently by members of staff throughout the evening."

The two men, who were wearing hats and gloves, used the stolen keys to take the victim's black Peugeot 407 estate car.

However, the vehicle was later recovered undamaged in nearby Long Lane.

Detectives say there is no evidence that pupils were involved in the theft, and the school has issued a statement saying the intruders "had nothing to do" with Hardley.

The Daily Echo understands that the thieves used the victim's phone to send text messages to his wife, but police are declining to comment.

The spokesman said: "In all cases there are some pieces of information that may be used for evidential purposes and are unable to be released."

A school spokesman said: "During a parent-teacher consultation evening, intruders, who had nothing to do with the school, entered the premises and stole personal belongings from an office.

"Among these were car keys, and a teacher's car was driven away."

The spokesman said Hardley had no information about the teacher's mobile phone being used, but added: "We know from CCTV images that the thieves are not pupils of the school."
