IT was the perfectly scripted Hollywood ending for a distinctly familiar cinema audience.
Ian Buckman and Michelle Curley got their real life happy ending tying the knot in front of family and friends – and the silver screen.
The film buffs became the first couple to tie the knot at the Harbour Lights Cinema in Ocean Village, Southampton.
In the lead-up to the ceremony in Screen Two, the Sholing couple had asked their guests to send in pictures of themselves, which were then played on a slideshow on screen along with updates on the wedding party’s progress.
Then, just before the bride’s entrance, credits rolled with the names of all the principal people for the day.
Michelle walked down the cinema aisle to the Grand Prix theme tune – The Chain by Fleetwood Mac – while guests watched the ceremony from their armchairs.
The only thing missing to complete the cinematic experience was popcorn – which is not allowed due to strict marriage laws on food and drink.
Ian, 39, who works in the accounts department at Carnival UK, said: “It was fantastic – I think even the registrars were as excited as we are because it was a new venue and they’d not done it before.”
Michelle, 29, who works as an accounts clerk at Lloyds Register in Town Quay, said: “It’s a lovely venue. It’s been better than I hoped.”
The wedding reception afterwards was fish and chips at the Woolston Conservative Club.
Hayley Carnegie, 40, of Redbridge, a friend of the couple said: “This venue means so much to them, they spend a lot of time at the cinema, it’s special to both of them.”
The cinema will be holding another wedding this year and has already had several enquiries about next year.
