UNDERSTANDING different faiths is the focus of a Hampshire radio show that has been going from strength-to-strength.
Four different faiths discuss each other’s beliefs and look at each other’s Holy Scriptures every Sunday on Unity 101 Community Radio’s ‘Faith on Sunday’ show which broadcasts each Sunday from 6pm to 8pm on 101.1FM.
The representatives from Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Sikh faiths also discuss what each does within the community, as well as providing listeners information and invitation about events at their place of worship.
The Christian representative Neil Maddock, praised what the show aims to achieve.
He said: “It encourages listeners to think about their own beliefs and what they understand about faith and hopefully breaks down misconceptions about different groups and helps us to understand each other a bit more and see where there are opportunities to work together for the good of our city.”
Also delighted to be taking part on the show and representing the Islamic faith is Arshad Sharif.
He said: “As Islam is always in the news it’s important for us to speak direct to the audience and for the listeners to call in with any questions. The show is going from strength to strength, we’ve had friends listening to the show via the Internet as far away as Iraq and Qatar.”
Hindu representative Ravi Parmar added: “The Faith on Sunday programme gives a unique opportunity for everyone in Southampton to gain an understanding of the religion from a practitioners view.”
The show has taken eight months of planning to get-going but now according to Unity 101 station manager Ram Kalyan Kelly, more people have been tuning in each week to have a listen and the show has been a big success.
