SPORTS fans spent the weekend basking in the glory of last summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.
A year on from the start of London 2012, several events were held to honour the anniversary on Saturday.
A community games event, designed to be a mini-Paralympics, was held at Toynbee School in Chandler’s Ford, while boot camp sessions were held at Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh as part of a family fun day.
Organised by charity Youth Options, the mini-Paralympics was attended by Katie Kemish, who won a gold medal in the National Boccia Championships.
The event also marked the launch of a new Boccia club, which will run every week. Boccia is a Paralympic sport similiar to petanque and bowls. Athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court aiming to get closest to the jack.
