RHINO spotters in Southampton have a new tool in their armoury to ensure they do not miss any of the magnificent mammals.
Marwell Wildlife has launched a mobile phone app to help those on the Go! Rhinos trail seek out everyone of the life-sized and mini sculptures in city parks and streets.
The free download is already available for the iPhone and the Android version will be going live this week, ensuring everyone can make the most of the unique trail.
The app tracks your progress on the trail and the more rhinos you mark as found, the more rewards you can unlock along the way, including discount vouchers.
But there is no cheating – the app uses a GPS signal so it will know if you are really near the rhinos and it will not be ticked off the list until the GPS matches up with the rhino location.
It also has a built-in social media function so that you can capture photos and tweet when you spot a rhino.
Kirstie Mathieson, Go! Rhinos project leader, said: “We are thrilled that the mobile phone apps are now live.
“Rhino spotters will be able to keep a record of which rhinos they have seen and be guided to each of the sculptures via the map function.
“It will really bring the trail to life.”
