A HAMPSHIRE man has died as a result of a head-on collision in the county this morning.
The crash, involving a black Peugeot 307 and a grey VW Passat, happened shortly after 7am outside Hillside Nurseries on Basingstoke Road near Alton as the Peugeot travelled towards Basingstoke from Alton and the VW travelled in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Peugeot, a 25-year-old man from Gosport, died at the scene.
The front seat passenger, a man also in his 20s, was injured in the collision and taken to North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke where he is being treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
The driver and front seat passenger in the Passat sustained minor injuries which did not require treatment.
No arrests have been made.
The road is expected to remain closed until approximately 1pm while collision investigators thoroughly examine the scene and arrange for the vehicles to be recovered.
Witnesses to the crash are asked to call Sgt Alex Rawdon-Smith at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Fedora.
