ONE of Southampton’s famous herd of rhinos has found a new job – as a bridesmaid.
Pink rhino Fleur joined young members of the wedding party after Sam and Greg Porter were married at Southampton’s Westgate Hall.
After the couple had tied the knot, 29-year-old receptionist Sam decided to mark her special day by getting Fleur involved in the post-ceremony photos.
Sam, from Golden Grove, Southampton, said: “We had seen the rhinos before the wedding and we realised that the rhino outside Westgate Hall was the same colour as the bridesmaid dresses.
“The kids loved it and they looked very good next to it.”
Her sons, four-year-old Mason and two-year-old Mitchell, were ring bearers and her three-year-old cousin Molly was a bridesmaid. Sam’s groom was her partner of six years, 33-year-old chef Greg.
The herd of colourfully painted rhinos have proven hugely popular since the brilliant beasts started popping up across Southampton last month.
The Go! Rhinos project is aimed at attracting thousands of visitors to the city through the visual “Wow!” factor provided by the 36 life-sized rhinos.
Once the trail is over they will be auctioned off and the money raised will be divided between Wessex Heartbeats, HIGH 5 Appeal, The Rose Road Association and Marwell Zoo’s conservation charity.
