THE newest ship in the Brazilian navy has set sail from Hampshire.
The Araguari has begun her 10,000-mile journey after having the finishing touches put to her by workers at Hampshire firm BAE Systems.
The vessel was mainly built at the firm’s Glasgow base but workers in Portsmouth completed the job before she left the UK on Saturday.
When she reaches Brazil she will join up with sister ships Amazonas, which was entirely built in Hampshire, and Apas, which was finished in Portsmouth as part of BAE’s long-term deal with the Brazilian navy.
The firm employs more than 300 people from the Southampton area at its Portsmouth base.
