As you would expect from a play by the daughter of Jack Rosenthal and Maureen Lipman, Amy Rosenthal's drama of a middle-aged woman finding herself through posing as a life model has plenty of humour and warmth.

But the structure of the piece makes it drag and too little is made of the central conceit. Half the scenes take place away from the class and the constant changing between the two main settings means the action is interrupted for scene shifting every five minutes.

As Nancy, Pauline Howson adds a lot of droll comedy, but is defeated by Rosenthal's unconvincing portrayal of depressed behaviour in the first 20 minutes, and other characters undergo personality changes without good reason.

The cast have their moments - Nina (Sue Hale), Max (Graham Cranmer) and Zelda (Katy Watkins) in particular - but the lack of depth of this piece makes for an unsatisfactory whole.
