ANOTHER cashpoint has been targeted by vandals attempting to remove its anti-skimming device.

This is the latest in a string of Barclays bank cashpoints targeted in the last few weeks in Hampshire locations, this one being in Chandler’s Ford.

On each occasion someone has tried to remove the security device which stops people cloning cards.

Police believe that these attempts are linked and are warning residents to be on the lookout for unusual behaviour when withdrawing cash.

The latest such incident happened at a cashpoint on Winchester Road, in Chandler’s Ford, on Tuesday at around 9.20pm, but there have been several incidents in Southampton and in Hedge End and another in Park Gate and Eastleigh in the last three weeks.

Barclays has said it has a system which automatically shuts the cash point down to stop it being tampered with in any way.

A Barclays spokesman said: “However, this does mean that the machines have then been out of action until our engineers can get to the site to make the necessary repairs.

“We do apologise to customers for the inconvenience this has caused and will co-operate fully with the police to help catch the people responsible.”

Now Link, which operates the UK’s cash machine network, has stepped in with a reward of up to £25,000 for information leading to criminals being brought to justice.
