HAMPSHIRE firefighters are helping fellow firefighters more than 4,000 miles away.
Members of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Urban Search and Rescue team raised funds to finance their continuing charitable work with Thika fire station in Kenya.
They collected more than £1,500 on two days at Sainsbury’s in Fareham.
In the last six years, the Hampshire team’s fundraising efforts have led to the donation of two ex-service fire engines and three container loads of protective clothing and equipment.
They have also provided valuable training in fir fighting, first aid, trauma care and cutting people from vehicles to the Kenyan firefighters.
The money raised will enable firefighters to travel out to Thika, which is 40km from Nairobi, later this year in their own time to continue the training.
