The deadline is looming for buyers interested in snapping up two of the largest buildings owned by Hampshire police chiefs.
Potential investors have until early September to make bids for Alpha Park in Chandler’s Ford and Hampshire Constabulary’s West Hill headquarters in Winchester.
Commercial property giants Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) have been hired to help sell the sites.
They are just two of 30 Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner properties being sold off in a multi-million pound portfolio that includes police stations, operational properties and a number of residential buildings.
As previously reported, Alpha Park has been empty for five years after being bought in 2008 for £9.6m by the county’s police authority.
More than £1.8m has been paid out by the force for round-the-clock security for the 166,112 sq ft premises which were originally bought as a new police headquarters. Refurbishing it to make it fit for purpose would have cost a further £15m.
Details of the sell-off were revealed by Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes and the Chief Constable Andy Marsh in a joint press conference earlier this year.
Mr Marsh said at the time that money saved in the estates review – estimated at more than £40m through the sale of buildings – would be ploughed back into frontline services.
LSH says capital raised from sales will be reinvested into new police headquarters, two new Police Investigation Centres and an extensive refurbishment programme of existing buildings.
The 5.84-acre West Hill site – consisting of an eight-storey 1960s block and stand alone buildings – has outline planning consent for demolition and the building of 294 homes.
Graham Holland of LSH said: “West Hill represents a rare and significant opportunity for substantial development in a very sought after area of Winchester, with a great transport network and local amenities. “Alpha Park is a key strategic site comprising a large headquarters, production and warehouse facility, which ticks a lot of boxes for businesses looking to relocate to or within Southampton.”
Buyers have until September 5 to make an offer for Alpha Park while the following day is the deadline for those wanting to express an interest in the West Hill site.
