TWO toddlers had an incredible escape after a mystery missile hit the back window of their family car with glass crashing down on them.

The car was ambushed as it travelled along Passfield Avenue towards the motorway.

As the Nissan Primera approached the mini-roundabout at the junction with Derby Road the woman driver heard a a loud thud.

Then in a terrifying moment this was followed by the rear windscreen crashing into the car over her two young children, aged two and five, who were sat in the back.

Fortunately neither child was hurt by the shattering glass but they and the driver were shocked and distressed by the incident.

Police say the road was very busy at the time with a continuous stream of traffic travelling in both directions. Despite this, no-one came to the woman's assistance.

In addition, local schools and college students were making their way home and officers investigating, appeal to anyone who was in the area on Wednesday December 6 just before 3pm contact them.

Police would particularly like to speak to two youths who were seen walking nearby immediately after the incident, as they are likely to hold vital information. They were on the Fleming Park side of Passfield Avenue and then used the crossing and walked into Derby Road.

Both are white and aged approximately 16-years. One of them was wearing a red jacket and the other was carrying a grey rucksack. Both appear to have found the incident amusing as they were laughing and looking towards the woman and her car.

These two youths or anyone who knows them are urged to contact the police as a matter of urgency. Anyone else who may be able to provide information should contact Eastleigh police station on 0845 045 45 45 or use the anonymous Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111.
