A MEMORIAL service was being held today for a woman who dedicated 55 years of her life to the Girls' Brigade.
Glenys Arnold, who died earlier this month at the age of 72, served in the brigade faithfully, inspiring those less fortunate and encouraging them to fulfil their full potential.
Today hundreds of mourners will say farewell and thanks to the woman who was at the heart of Totton's community.
From the age of 21, Glenys was Captain of the 1st Totton Girls Brigade, organising foreign adventures and leading the girls into countless musical competitions.
She even met her husband of 47 years, Bryan Arnold, through her work.
He was captain of the Totton Boys' Brigade.
She was known to many as the lady with the husky dog, as she marched behind the Girls Brigade Band with their mascot, Imuk.
The memorial service is being held today at the Trinity Church, Hazel Farm Road, Totton, starting at 2.30pm. A private family-only funeral service is to be held later.
