A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has admitted killing a man after a confrontation in a Southampton street.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to manslaughter when he appeared at Winchester Crown Court.

The charges were brought after the death of Peter Ramsey, 40, of Green Park Road, Millbrook, Southamp-ton. Mr Ramsey died from serious head injuries following an incident with a group of youths in Wimpson Lane last October.

Blood clot Canadian-born Mr Ramsey, an artist and father-of-two, is alleged to have become involved with the youths as he walked home from the Tesco Express store with his partner Victoria Lewis.

He was helped home after the incident but was later taken to Southampton General Hospital to have a blood clot removed from his brain. He never regained consciousness.

In paying tribute to her partner, Miss Lewis described Mr Ramsey as "a gentle giant and hopeless romantic".

Police launched an investigation following Mr Ramsey's death on October 13. They subsequently arrested and questioned six youths. As a result, a 13-year-old boy and another 15-year-old boy, who also cannot be named, have been charged with manslaughter.

They are due to appear at Winchester Crown Court in mid-January for a plea and case management hearing.

Both the 15-year-old who admitted manslaughter and the 13-year-old were yesterday remanded in custody.

Judge Guy Boney QC adjourned sentencing the 15-year-old until the end of the legal proceedings against the other two boys.

No action has been taken against the other three boys arrested.
